The Grand
June 29th, 2010Edit this text
As has become the practice since I took over at The Grand, last November, I would like to take the opportunity to update as to what is happening within the The Grand
.
As I put out this we’re looking at what should be the start of a successful and busy Easter weekend which spearheads us into the second quarter of 2010, (time has sure enough flown this year!) For anyone visiting the property over this time you can look forward to an Easter Antiques Fair, Mouth Watering Easter Sunday Banquet with an Easter Egg hunt for the little ones and our Easter Monday Grand Tour.
In March, something unique happened at The Grand. We launched our own Real Ale, the originally titled “(The) Grand Ale”.
The product launch for this was publicised by The Folkestone Herald (Edition 25/03/10) and can be viewed on the following link – http://thisiskent.digiturn.co.uk/archives/thisiskent/
Of the launch of “The Grand Ale”, Secretary of the Folkestone, Hythe & District Hotel & Catering Association, Margaret Shorland had the following to say- “(The Management is) raising the profile of the Grand, which in turn raises the profile of Folkestone, which has got to be good for everyone”
The Grand Ale is an exclusive beer, brewed by Nelsons Brewing Company, Chatham.
March also saw the launch of a new website for The Grand, with an easier and cleaner way of navigating and a more up to date content. The site is now up and running, even so I would very much like any feedback so as to better this site for future users
.
The biggest change this month has to be an increase in our star rating.
When I joined in November the properties Visit England rating was set at 2 – 4 Stars, now after an involved process of works in accordance with Visit England I have the joy to announce that we have secured a rating of 3 & 4 Stars, which is a huge step in securing a full 5 star rating.
Now, in our Restaurants & Bars-
The Palm Court Restaurant has broken its Spring Menu, again offering local produce at very sane prices; guests can look forward to many new dishes taking center stage as the nights get lighter.
Down in Keppels, which is our cellar Wine Bar & Bistro, our Around the World menu takes us to Japan, with several exotic and delicious dishes available throughout the month.
Finally, what do we have at The Grand in April-
The Charity “Syn at The Grand” event, in support of the East Kent Child Witness Service begins on April 15th with an exclusive preview which Actor / Producer Marc Sinden has kindly agreed to open for me. This is an important event, cementing my commitment to support a local charity every year. Please visit our website (www.Grand-Uk.com) to learn more about “Syn at The Grand” and our corporate responsibility to charities within the area to learn more.
Incidentally, I may have lined up a little surprise on the 15th too…………..
During April “Friends of The Folkestone Collections” will be displaying a selection of Japanese Prints, on display in the Palm Court Restaurant between April 2nd & 19Th. All prints are taken from various private collections and are not normally shown on view. Viewing of this pictures is free of charge and I would highly recommend it.
Finally, keep the British End Up on St. George’s day in Keppels where we will be offering a pint of The Grand Ale for just 1p when purchased with any of our Great British Menu items currently served in our Keppels Menus. Fantastic.
Finally, before I go I would just like to say a very big thank-you to those members of the public who have written to the local and regional papers and contacted The Grand, direct, in support of the property and its direction this year. I would like to say that I am truly touched by the generosity and goodwill supporting what we are trying to action at The Grand. Indeed, as I write this, I have just been made aware of a lovely letter written and published in Aprils “Kent Life” Magazine, so once again I am in the position to say thank-you.
As always, I look forward to your feedback and suggestions as we enter what I hope to be a Great British Summer, and I’ll leave you with Six little words-
“Murder at The Grand”
